Welcome to the 1st Bishops Stortford and Hockerill Scout Group.

Founded in 1909, the Group is thriving, with more young members and adult leaders than ever before. In our Centenary year membership reached 200 making us proud to become the second largest Group in Hertfordshire, the largest in the District and one of the top 30 Groups in the UK.

At our Scout Headquarters, off Heath Row in Bishops Stortford, we currently have three Beaver Scout Colonies, three Cub Scout Packs and three Scout Troops, all of which undertake full and varied programmes of activity throughout the year. For more information on the sections and to help decide which would be right for your child, please click on the links above.

The Group also leases Priory Wood, a 14 acre campsite on the outskirts of Bishops Stortford, which all Sections use on a regular basis for outdoor fun and adventure ranging from orienteering to camp cooking. Please click here for a location map and for more information about hiring the campsite for your own activity.

Aztec 2016 Gold Award Expedition

In June, four Aztec Scouts set off, carrying all their food, kit and tents, on an unaccompanied hike. On their arrival at the camp site they put up their tents, cooked and got some must needed rest. The following day, after breaking camp, they completed their journey by hiking back to the Scout Hut. A true test of their resilience and map reading skills – especially on such a wet and muddy weekend!

2016 Comanche, Apache and Navaho Cub Camp

Cubs are all well fed and have enjoyed a day of activities.

Everybody enjoyed the water fight. You can see how much from the pics of Baloo – before and after! The leaders won of course!

Time for a camp fire and a sing-song, before some much needed rest!

Aztec Bring Home the Cup!

On the weekend of 13-15 November (yes the really windy, wet one!) Aztec entered two teams into the Hertfordshire Scouts 32nd Annual Green Beret Challenge.

After a weekend of sleeping under canvas, battling 146 teams in physical and mental activities including air rifle shooting, orienteering, assault course and night bases, we're really pleased to announce that the Aztec Yellow Team were the event's overall winners!!

Great teamwork and lots of mud – the perfect combination!

Yellow Team: Imogen, Harry, George, Henry, Morgan and Sophie. Green Team: Tom, Adam, Matthew, Rees, Sam and Sam. Supported by: Louise, Sam, Becky and Dawn.

This is the second time that Aztec have won the cup – so watch out Green Beret 2016!

Group Family Fun Day and AGM, 30 June 2013

Another great day for members of the Group and their families. And what a lovely sunny one it was too! Definitely a date to put in your diary for next year!
